Watching any loved one face surgery can be a painful prospect, whether it's a human or a pet. But you can rest easier when you have Fairfax Veterinary Clinic on your side. Your pet's veterinarian in Fairfax, CA can make sure he or she gets the appropriate pre-operative diagnostics, expert surgical attention, advanced intra-operative monitoring, and essential post-operative care and pain control to help him or her recover with flying colors.

Fairfax Veterinary Clinic employs the same rigorous attention to safety as you would expect in a human hospital. This includes appropriate pre-anesthetic evaluation to ensure that all surgical patients have the most optimum anesthetic protocol employed. This also includes intra-operative patient monitoring by trained personnel, monitoring everything from blood pressure, exhaled CO2 levels, blood oxygen saturation, EKG readings, body temperature, and providing intra-operative fluid support through the use of an intravenous catheter.

Spay & Neuter

Spay and neuter procedures are perhaps the most common and routine of all surgical categories, but it is still important that it be done by a competent and caring staff that does not treat it cavalierly- a staff that will tailor the procedure and the care to your pet based on their breed, age, and temperament. The benefits of spaying and neutering pets should not be taken lightly. Spaying and neutering prevents pet overpopulation, thereby reducing animal suffering and the burden of overcrowded animal shelters. Sexual sterilization also eliminates the risk for uterine, ovarian and testicular cancer, as well as reducing the risk of mammary cancer, pyometra, and prostatitis. It often reduces aggression, roaming, and other "heat"-fueled behaviors that can get your pet into trouble.

Tumor Removal

Tumors can afflict pets as well as humans, both externally on the skin as well as internally. Your Fairfax veterinarian can help identify and remove internal and external tumors when appropriate. The goals of these types of surgeries can be curative, diagnostic, palliative, or a combination of thereof. Biopsies are often performed to check for malignancies and to determine prognosis, and whether or not additional follow up care may benefit your pet.
