At Fairfax Veterinary Clinic, our team of five veterinarians specializes in providing the highest standard of Fairfax pet care services to all kinds of companion animals in the surrounding area. From cats and dogs to pocket pets and other more exotic pets, we offer a wide range of pet care services in a welcoming environment. One of the most common, and arguably most important, services we provide is that of the comprehensive wellness exam, which we recommend for most pets at least once a year.
The Importance of Pet Nutrition and Wellness Exams
While we are always here to help when your pet is hurt or sick, we prefer to help keep your pet healthy through proper preventive care, nutrition, and regular exams. By bringing your pet in for an annual wellness exam, we’re able to stay on top of any changes in your pet’s health that could indicate an underlying medical issue. This, in turn, allows us to diagnose, treat, and manage health problems as soon as possible. Pets who receive regular exam and appropriate preventive care tend to lead a healthier, fuller, longer life.
During a routine wellness exam, we’ll check your pet’s vital signs, breathing, heart rate and rhythm, lymph nodes, coat and skin, eyes, ears, teeth and oral health, neurological and musculoskeletal health, abdomen, body weight, and other important aspects of your pet’s wellness. We’ll discuss things like parasite control and whether any vaccines might be necessary and why. We’ll also weigh your pet to ensure they’re a healthy weight, and can discuss things like nutrition and exercise.
A wellness exam is also a great opportunity for you to ask our vet any questions you may have or bring up any concerns you have about your pet’s health. Our veterinary team is always happy to sit down with you and address your concerns as well as explain any aspect of your pet’s health. We believe that educated pet owners are able to provide better care to their companions!
